First job of the day today was an All Keys Lost on a 2005 Hyundai Tucson here in Great Wakering.
The vehicle was open, but unfortunately both the key and the remote had been lost despite the owner searching everywhere for them.
People often ask how we deal with an all keys lost situation without having to change the locks or ignition, so here is a quick look at what was involved.
Even though the car was already open, we still needed to pick the door lock so it could be decoded. This allows us to determine the correct cuts needed to make a brand new key using the existing lock.
Once the new key was cut, we added and programmed a transponder chip. Without this chip the car can not be programmed to the car and will not start. We then connect diagnostic equipment to the immobiliser system and program the vehicle to accept the new key.
Finally, we programmed the new remote fob so the central locking and alarm system work exactly as they should.
The result is a fully working key and remote, and the customer is back on the road.
If you ever lose your car keys, it is not the end of the world. In most cases a new key can be created even when no keys are available.
